Day 8 Emotions connected to symptoms

    From 'Question to Ponder':

Are you having success at recognizing the emotions connected to your pain? If you have, how do these emotions make you feel? If not, what do you think is preventing you from doing this?

I feel like a lot of my TMS shows up in connection with 'learned behaviors', for example
    • pain in my wrist when typing
    • knee pain when load bearing
    • shoulder tightness when engaging my shoulder
Until now I haven't noticed much emotional connection with these symptoms, though they are sometimes worse under times of stress. That being said, I think I can make a connection between a feeling of overwhelm or too much going on and getting acid reflux in the night. I guess my TMS work here is to not expect too much of myself and try to cram too much into my day and also to have compassion for myself.

At times I've noticed that my constipation is linked to anxiety. I think that historically a lot of this anxiety has been linked to fear around needing to be 'the best'---that is, not recognizing that "I'm good enough". Recently I had a bout of anxiety/constipation while on vacation. I just continued doing my daily TMS work and did my best to not give either the constipation or the anxiety much energy or attention (not easy!). And what do you know, in a few days both symptoms moved through.

Oh yeah - I get symptoms turn up as soon as I feel overwhelmed - and I feel overwhelmed so easily! Now that I recognise that I can get rid of them really quickly. Also now I can chuckle at/with myself for being so easily overwhelmed, then I sit down and make a list of what actually needs to be done, put it in order of importance to me, than I get up and do it. What doesn't get done, either gets done another day - or remains undone! and the sky has not fallen in yet!
