Yep, Yep, and Yep. Saying these things, whether literally out loud or silently (but clearly), is a powerful tool around which your brain can then visualize a different outcome.
What you're actually doing is interrupting the harder-to-hear negative self-talk that your brain is constantly (constantly!) trying to drag you down with.
The first time I ever did this was shortly after I read The Divided Mind and Hope and Help For Your Nerves. I was feeling a little queasy at bedtime, a very common occurrence with me - typically leading to a night of digestive upset. I took a few deep breaths and literally said to my brain "come on now, you don't need to do that - it really isn't necessary". Doing that put a stop to the insidious negative chatter that was saying "oh-oh, you're in for it now, oh no, what if you start feeling nauseated, what if it gets worse, what if you've got a stomach bug, what if what if what if what if...." It totally worked - and has worked ever since.
That was the easiest TMS symptom for me to banish like that, but it absolutely showed me the way, and gave me a lot of hope for more successes, which eventually did happen.
So keep talking back to your brain - it works!
