    Hi,

I am anxious about my dental visit. I have to take root canal treatment for my premolar. It is a 2 step procedure. Last day I made my first visit to the Appleton Dental, Whitby (http://www.appletondental.ca/ (Family And Cosmetic Dentistry Whitby, Ajax | Appleton Dental), but it took too much time for the doctor to make me calm. It was awkward. I felt shame. They advised me and explained the procedures. Next day I have to make my second visit and I am worried about it. How could I control my dental phobia? Do I need to use any drugs? suggest some ideas.

I also have dental phobia but have found that using EFT (emotional freedom technique) is extremely helpful AND easy. The basics by the founder are in this video

( if the link doesn't work just google beginner EFT - there are lots of how to videos. The one I linked is by the founder Gary Craig

It is a technique used for PTSD so it's very effective. When in the dentist chair instead of actually doing to tapping as described in the video you can imagine tapping on the sites.

    Roney,

I feel for you. I had a look at your dentist and they seem to embrace a caring ethos. This is so important because you need a dentist you can confide in about your fears. There is absolutely no need to feel ashamed. I've never been fan of the dentist either but I have remedied my fear through a combination of eft (and other relaxation techniques), and by changing my diet so my teeth are healthy and don't need tinkering with.

I endorse the use of eft and Freeange has posted a great resource for you. I use Faster eft rather than this but both essentially work in the same way. In the past when I used to terribly fear the dentist I would do a lot of tapping the day before and whenever I felt fear around it. Eft can dissolve these emotional states. You can also mentally tap which is basically running through the process in your mind. I do this while I'm in the waiting room.

Because I *have* trigeminal neuralgia I decided I needed to really look after my teeth and gums so I sought out a healing diet. Not many people realise that their teeth are living and have specific nutritional needs. The plan I initially followed can be found on Amazon or bought here:

http://www.curetoothdecay.com/index.html (Cure Tooth Decay - Stop, treat and reverse dental cavities naturally.)

It is based on the work of Weston Price who was a dentist in the 1930's. He realised that our civilised diet was destroying the health of our teeth and he travelled the globe seeking traditional people following traditional diets who confirmed his theory. Most of us are nutritionally deficient, particularly regarding fat soluble vitamins because our governments have endorsed terrible dietary advice for decades.

I can attest to the success of the diet as I have 100% healthy teeth. No fillings, no extractions, no root canals, nothing.

Here is another site which has pretty much the same information for free:

http://www.healingteethnaturally.com/ (Healing Teeth Naturally-tooth decay & periodontal disease causes & prevention, stopping & reversing dental caries and gum problems)

Teeth remineralise quite quickly so it's possible for you to heal that premolar. As with allopathic medicine, modern dentists are not trained in nutrition. We have to assume responsibility for our own health.

Watch this but substitute dentist for doctor:

http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/advice-before-going-to-the-doctor.12982/#post-68320 (Advice before going to the Doctor.)

Muse on all this. You don't have to do anything immediately. Think. Reflect. Maybe reschedule your appointment while you gather knowledge and learn some techniques to help deal with your phobia. I've overcome mine so I know it can be done.

    Hugs xxx

It was thirteen years after I had two root canals that I learned about dangers of root canals.

So far I have not detected any negative health effects from them. But my holistic dentist said that to patients with cancer or autoimmune disease he recommends taking them out.

By the way, I posted this yesterday on my blog on the two steps I took to relief a really bad toothache. I hope it will provide you some relief too.
