Day 9 Day 9

I’m definitely overly critical of myself. Today’s journaling showed me that it happens more than I realize. Especially concerning the people I allow to be in my life. I’ve always settled for whoever wants to be there because I didn’t like being alone. But I don’t have to get down on myself for it. I was just really lonely and sad and I did what I needed to feel better. It’s okay and I can now choose better quality people. And when I’m ready, walk away from those who don’t need to be there anymore.

It’s amazing what the process we’re going through reveals to us. Your insights sound very profound to me. It’s only by becoming aware of these phenomena that we can start acting differently. I congratulate you on continuing this process and gaining further insights. It’s comforting to know that others are on their own journey. It makes me feel less alone.

I can so relate to this! I came to a similar realisation about myself... I looked back over my life (it was when a so called 'friend' had suddenly ghosted me for no apparent reason that I could determine) and realised that most of my friends (especially my long-term friends) had chosen me rather than me deciding I'd like to foster a relationship with them. With me, I think being an only child with no first cousins was a big reason for this.

Thank you! I never considered journaling to find the deeper meaning. I always assumed it was just to keep track of life, but never imagined it would reveal these insights. You’re definitely not alone and I think more people will turn to this program than ever before because it seems like so many people are suffering in one way or another.

I’ve had a similar experience and I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m starting to wonder how many were actually “friends” and not just people allowed in to take up space. I have a small family that’s dysfunctional so we’re not close and I might as well be an only child too. I’ve noticed I let people use me, like for advice whenever they want or to help them in some other way but there isn’t any reciprocity. I think that’s because I just wanted to be liked and not be alone. I wonder how many more of us with this phenomena have allowed this behavior.

Yep. I've found that another aspect of this is that as soon as you can't participate in stuff like you used to, you're sidelined.

Sadly, a lot, I would imagine!
