Good for you...yeah, it can be a slow process, as the lower, slower, duller part of the brain can control some of the pain process and may require persistent, repetitive encouragement to let go...so, maybe more of a narrow, country lane of information at first...took me about four weeks the first time (lower back), then less each time as the chronic pain moved around to other areas of my body (shoulder, elbow, wrist) that were "vulnerable" (injured temporarily earlier in life)...I was challenged by that need for patience and remember tossing Sarno's book against the wall in rage and frustration and taking a handful of Ibubrofen in spite as I crawled on my hands and knees to the bathroom crying...but then these short, beautiful moments of pain relief would appear, first only a minute or two, then longer, and they reaffirmed my faith in the TMS etiology and treatment as it made no sense that it would cut out for only a minute if it was structural/inflammatory...as for anxiety, I hear you, I grew up in an anxious household, and lived a "contracted" existence as a result; so, stressful situations brought on chronic pain...nice, though, that this method also helps bring awareness to the sometimes un- or sub-conscious nature of that held anxiety/contractedness/fear... {as Kevin had mentioned: a bit of a blessing -- "Once I began to understand what was going on and recover, I become grateful for the pain.... that is, I don't believe I would've faced many emotional wounds had I not become so hopeless due to the pain. Now I look back and thank my body and mind for this experience because I'm FINALLY dealing with some shit that I simply did not want to look at, mostly childhood and other past events/emotions. It's like the old cliché, a blessing in disguise."
