Question: what is the most distressing thing a doctor has ever told you? I absolutely believe that the most distressing thing a doctor has ever told me is that he believed, based off one genetic marker test, that I have ankylosing spondylitis. Having a cousin who has AS, I have seen the destruction that it can cause, and as a result, my world shattered that day. Previous to this particular doctor, I had been under the care of a wonderful rheumatologist who insisted I did not have AS, or any particular autoimmune issues despite markers to the contrary. It was after I moved away and began searching for a new rheumy that I unfortunately landed with this fella who turned my world upside down. It is because of him that I have lingering doubts of a TMS diagnosis. I loathe him for being so quick to diagnose and prescribe a biologic. His words were so powerful and created such fear in me that I have a hard time believing the other THREE rheumatologists who say quite the opposite. I truly wish doctor's were more careful with their words and their diagnoses!!! I am open to all suggestions on how to rid myself of this notion of AS...it's just hard when the pain continues in the area that is often afflicted by the disease.
