Day 4

The most disheartening thing a pelvic pain specialist told me about my symptoms was that I would never be pain free again; she was going to help me by reducing the pain with medication. After that appointment, I had an emotional breakdown because I felt so helpless. At that point, I had tried several things (Botox, physical therapy, acupuncture, been to a chronic pain class, and was on medication) and nothing worked. That day, I felt that there was nothing to look forward to other than have pain for the rest of my life! It was devastating and that appointment has affected me very much. I know the doctor had no ill intentions but I want to prove to her that she was wrong.

Some days I feel determined and others I feel defeated...

Hi Alyssa,

I fully believe you will be able to prove to that doc that she was wrong. If you haven't read all of Dr. Sarno's books, that's a good place to begin. Although part of the medical profession, he repeatedly calls out doctors in general for not properly diagnosing people with TMS. And, of course, if you don't have an accurate diagnosis, you won't have effective treatment. That doctor's comment was reprehensible -- giving some people a title and a white coat makes them think they're God.

Stick with this program, honestly do the work, and expect the best. It sounds like you're in the right place!

Hi, Alyssa. That doctor sure must have flunked bedside manners in medical school. What terrible thing to tell a patient, that there is no hope for recovery.

I agree with Mike. Consider yourself blessed to have discovered TMS and this web site. The SEProgram will help you discover the emotional causes of your pain. They say to live in the present moment, but in your case I would look forward to the day when you can tell that doctor that you healed, and not with medication. Keep working the SEP. Journaling helped me to become free of severe back pain. I was repressing years of anger and feelings of insecurity when my parents divorced when I was seven.

It's common in TMS healing to have up days and down days. It's your subconscious moving pain around until you discover those emotional causes of pain and believe 100 percent they are fro TMS and are not structural.
