The question "What was the most disheartening thing a doctor ever said to make you feel dreadful? can sometimes have added up to quiet a few actually if like me you have been in chronic pain for over 22 years. I was told I have L4&L5 fractures after numerous injections and drugs back in 1994 they operated Jan 1995 and put 4 pedicular titanium screws vertically through the 2 vertebrae and then wound dacrelene webbing round the outside of the screws for stability.
I though I would get better !!! Oh No more mobile maybe or just more used to the pain. It then developed pain throughout my neck ,shoulders, ribs cage etc
A moment which really effected me was when I saw a prominent pain specialist in Dublin and after a terse consultation he informed me with a straight grave face " your back is just in bits ,you'll spend the rest of your life looking out of a toilet bowl that is severe back pain" OK didnt see that coming felt like vomiting and my life was over at 26.
Then a few years ago when myself and my husband thought we gotta go for kids I was told "No way the amount of drugs your on would stop you every getting pregnant for the baby" which was true and you could not come off them you've tried for 2 years and your not coping with the pain imagine if you could not take any?? and you were carrying a child??? extra weight on back and you could end up in agony in a wheel chair."So that was that and time marched on. So although the medical fraternity have no idea what to do about backs they can hit you where it hurts and not all was wrong or bad just sticking to the road map of standard back physical pain handbook. When Sarno said"Knowledge is the penicillin that treats the syndrome" he could be talking about the mainstream view of back care and carers as well.

    Hi Saoirse,
I am very touched by your story. Listening, I can imagine how the operation, and then the results, and then the diagnoses all add more emotional stresses which do "not want to be felt," leading to more pain symptoms. I wish you the best in this program, and I am so happy you have found this alternative approach. I hope you saw my skiing success videos. Keep reading success stories. As you are learning, so much of what the medical industry tells us, and does to us, has no basis in fact.
