I finally caught TMS in action. I’ve been doing rowing exercises with resistance bands to help heal a nerve in my shoulder that was bothering me despite the recent cervical CT scans being normal. After a few days I noticed pain in my right forearm that was hard to ignore so I put my arm in a sling. My adult child asked what happened so I told them and their reply was “there’s always something wrong with you.” I thought maybe the sling was too much, so I took it off and decided to stop exercising until the pain went away.
I now realize the pain was my mind sending me a distraction to stop exercising. It was trying to protect me from fixing the nerve pain in my shoulder, which is connected to anger. I know it’s connected to anger because it only hurts when my husband isn’t interested in caring for me. Which connects to not being cared for as a child. When my shoulder hurts, I get referred symptoms with my digestion. Which is what bothered me as a child. So it’s all connected and it’s all TMS.
I’ve also had a fear of exercise from a phobia brought on by a misdiagnosis. Years ago I visited a specialist and they diagnosed me with all kinds of issues and treated me for years, charging my insurance for what I found out later was unnecessary tests. It probably never would have stopped if I hadn’t moved out of state. It took years of therapy to stop being afraid of my body, but I’m still apprehensive about exercising because of it. So that’s also TMS because I’m angry at the doctor. I have to add that one to my past list. I’m really uncovering stuff in this program and I’m so grateful for it.
