Hi - I have had lower back pain for about three years. I was diagnosed with a stage 1-2 spondilolythesis. I have had this condition (or at least some version of it) since I was about 10 years old....so that's 34 years. But it didn't bother me for many years. Since it started to hurt, I have spent over $10,000 on chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncture...etc...etc. I read most of Healing Back Pain about 2 years ago but didn't believe it. Finally, after talking to several people who've been helped by Dr. Sarno, I am picking it up again and taking it seriously. However, I'm still having some lingering doubts and trouble accepting that my structural diagnosis isn't at least partially responsible for the pain I have. But I'm working on it. A couple of the lingering doubts are: 1) when I do strenuous physical things like lift a heavy chair - I notice my back is more sore the next day. 2) I can't imagine that the spondy wouldn't cause pain and I'm afraid of worsening the injury. I've stopped doing physical things I love to do like jog and yoga for fear of injuring myself further. I really want to do these things again.
My friend saw Dr. Sarno and gave me the hand out that he gave to her. I've been trying to read it everyday.
Since picking up Dr. Sarno's work again, I have started to really admit to myself that anger is a big problem for me. It's something that plagues me on a nearly daily basis. I'm starting to go through the process of unearthing all the things I'm angry about. However, my back pain hasn't subsided YET!
I also just had a new baby so we're under a lot of stress!
I saw the Dr. at NYU who took over for Dr. Sarno, but even he made me angry. So I don't feel like going to listen to him lecture to me for many hours. I would rather get the DVD's of Dr. Sarno.
Anyone out there have a spondy who this has worked for? Any suggestions on how to eradicate my doubts.
Thank you,
