Came across this little clip. The doctor literally hits the nail on the head as does the patient.

''the bodys response to some underlying stress''

''symptoms are unconscious, not made up...something the body automatically does in order to avoid stress''

Admin: saw this on main Wiki but if this can be added to another thread, fire away!

what browser are you guys using? if Chrome/firefox you can install a plugin called 'Hola'

Just google ''install Hola chrome/firefox'' as required.

Its a virtual private network tool that you can use to pretend you are browsing from 'UK' when really you are in the 'US'

Before I decided to become a full time photographer, I studied Psychology at the graduate level (in addition to studying Acupuncture). I have often thought that TMS, in psychological terms, was very possibly a form of conversion disorder. I find this fascinating. Thank you for posting it, Irish Skeptic.

Thanks for posting this Irish. I recently stumbled on some great podcasts, one of which touches on this. I'll post them in a new thread.

Interesting that the mother and daughter both felt very uncomfortable about the condition not having a "physical" cause, like it was something to be ashamed of.

    Cheers Irish.

Thanks Irish. Glad she is on her way to full recovery. At least in for this condition the medical establishment is willing to accept the psychological factors.

Amazing. What a testament to TMS and emotions playing out in physical symptoms. I had heard about this story. Thanks for posting!

No problem guys, think I saw a few comments underneath it getting angry!

god it is such a feeling of helplessness not being able to articulate this message without people shooting the messenger!

Have been massively into my nutrition in recent times and turns out our diet full of processed foods/sugar is a culprit behind some mental illness. Stumbled upon a book by a top allergy specialist in England who made this assertion....in 1958!! like Sarno he gets glowing reviews but tell someone that migraines/mood could be influenced by food intake and you get a vacant stare! perplexing given the recent pieces by the Lancet editor Richard Horton.

    https://www.madinamerica.com/2015/0...ims-half-of-all-scientific-studies-are-false/

in any science of course not everything is accepted fact...or else it would cease to be science as argument is central. The concerning thing is how low the bar is set for biomedical research and the quality of work submitted. In manufacturing you have stringent quality systems like Six Sigma but in medicine it seems there is not the same standard of accepted truth. Given how tremendously complex human health is, we are coming to all sorts of false conclusions as confounding factors are not wholly considered. Quietly , the nutrition establishment is disowning epidemiological studies which lead to the demonisation of eggs/fat/etc.
Sugar it seems has been the real culprit as identified in 1972!! by John Yudkin.
Cancer research is the real scandal , with somewhere in the region of 90% of submitted papers not being replicable! this is basically an expected norm in Science. you conduct a study with a stated hypothesis and make it so that others can follow your exact work and obtain the same results. Massive fraud essentially.

This is a damaging period for the credibility of medicine but we will have a much better system emerging as the old one is renewed over time.
Sorry for rambling but this annoys me a lot because of my experience with a medical system that I trusted implicitly and only became sicker because of it.

Nutrition is hugely important in ones well being, I'd say, just as much as ones mind.

It is said the gut holds the Enteric Nervous System which provides feedback to the mind.

Thanks for sharing the article by Richard Horton, that is indeed disturbing.
