conflicting diagnosis

hi everyone... im a bit confused. ive been going to a Spine dr (Ortho) for over 9 months now. hes given me the diagnosis of SI joint disfunction and Disk degenertation with bulge on L5/S1.
wanted to get me into surgery to fuse my spine.
went to get a 2nd opinion from another Orthopedic doc and to my dismay he said that the bulge is so minimum it cannot cause the severe pain I have. also that degeneration is a 2 out of 10 and therefore could not be causing the pain....my insurance denied surgery on the basis of being medically unecessary.

now im in 2 extremely different opinions trying to figure out if this is structural or not.
should i get a 3rd opinion from another doctor or will i get more confused?

I would put my money on the doc who says skip the surgery. Sounds like you found an honest one!

Medically unnecessary! What else do you need to know?

The evidence increasingly shows Dr. Sarno is right that disc bulges simply do not cause pain. That has been confirmed for me my lived experience as well. TMS healing worked for me!

We found a high prevalence of abnormalities in the lumbar spine on MRI examination of people without back pain. Only 36 percent of those examined had a normal disk at all levels. About half had a bulge at at least one intervertebral disk, and about a quarter had at least one disk protrusion. Given the high prevalence of back pain in the population, the discovery of a bulge or protrusion on an MRI scan in a patient with low back pain may frequently be coincidental. Therefore, the clinical picture should be correlated with the MRI results. Abnormalities of the lumbar spine by MRI examination can be meaningless if considered in isolation.

Pls read my story, I had even more severe diagnosis and regret the spine fusions I had done, it was and always will be TMS. I really liked the SEP program and "Mindbody Prescription" by Sarno. good luck on your journey, you can do it!
