can acne be TMS?

hey guys, I hope whoever's reading this is in the best possible spirits!

I've been on my TMS journey (multi-symptom) for a couple months now and it's been life-changing so far 🙏🏽. over the years, I'd only get occasional hormonal acne which was more or less easily resolved but since around may (I confirmed & accepted tms around march), I've had huge breakouts that have just gotten worse over the months which isn't something I'm used to (like daily breakouts). I'm not sure if this is my brain perceiving danger and presenting acne as a new symptom, or if it's something structural. for a little more context, i also have sebborheic dermatitis in my scalp which could be contributing to the fungal types on my forehead and I also live in an extremely hot, humid caribbean country which could be making my face more oily and contributing to the bigger pustules. either way, i'd love some advice or thoughts or clarity from anyone who may have experienced this as one of their symptom.

if you'd recommend that i post this to another sub-forum, please let me know. thank you!

Hello yaadiexo -

If you'd like me to move your question to the Support subforum, I can do that - typically that's where people ask for Support 😊 although realistically, Support and General contain probably 95% or more of our discussions, and people often randomly post in the forum where they last landed. If we had more than two primary forums maybe it would matter more, but I realized a long time ago that trying to enforce a perfect separation of topics was just not worth the effort (letting go of perfectionism!) The only thing I enforce is to disallow duplicate posts in both forums.

The fact is that people seeking support on a specific topic find threads by searching on keywords, while those of us offering general support click on What's New to see all of the latest posts, no matter where they are.

Your choice! It's easy enough for me to change the location.

hi jan, thanks for responding, i appreciate it 🙂 you can do whichever you think would help me get some insight; we could leave this up for a few days and if there's no traction, move it to that forum

I’m replying just to bump this. I see these questions and find myself waiting for answers. Was bummed to see no one is taking a jab at this one. You can look up acne in the search bar and see peoples experiences. Wish you the best <3

To answer the heading question, yes absolutely. The TMS guide says on acne - "Acne is caused by hormones, genetics and diet. "Stress" can be a major factor, and patients should be educated about [TMS] as a possible significant trigger".

In your case, the fact that it's gotten a lot worse - seemingly in line with healing of other symptoms - seems like a massive coincidence (too big) as you alluded to.

Have you lived in the climate all this time or is that a recent move? If the only thing that has changed in line with the increase in symptoms is engaging in TMS recovery, then I think that's a pretty strong sign (if stress has increased, then that's equally great evidence). I'd rule out the structural if you can and the more structurally based sort of treatments, if they don't work then that's even more evidence - it's say it's a strong TMS chance :)
