I hadn’t seen my friends for 10 weeks. That was when they had lifted me out of the car into my bed because i was too paralyzed with pain to be able to move my body myself. They were extremely sympathetic because they had had bad bouts with back pain that had led to multiple surgeries. They cautioned me to be very assertive with the doctors i was scheduled to see, insisting that i ask the doctors for pain killers and other drugs and to make sure the doctors took my pain seriously. Now, here I was, 10 weeks later, at a baseball game, sprinting up the stands to join them. “How are you?” they asked with amazement showing on their faces. I explained how i discovered Sarno’s teachings and the TMSwiki after having been paralyzed in bed with pain for a week. i told them about the SEP and the massive amount of SEP prompted work I had done. Now, I was completely free from pain. Not all the time, but most of the time. When pain came, it was fleeting and not debilitating.

They are very Christian and believe in miracles and are also modern thinkers aware of the power of the subconscious. But, they are also deeply wedded to the progress they are making through their surgical procedures. They don’t see their situation as being possibly TMS, in any way. Maybe they are right, but maybe not. I’m seeing the possibility of TMS in lots of people now. I tell my story to friends, especially those that seem to be suffering from TMS, and I have learned to be careful to not suggest they might have TMS because the response has been an immediate description of the injury that caused their physical pain and symptoms and an elaborate explanation contrasting their situation with mine. It is becoming more obvious to me that people have to be ready to look at themselves and come up to themselves with the idea that TMS is a condition they might have. Even though it seems screamingly obvious to me that that’s what best fits their symptoms, especially given all the evidence they share about their experiences/self-observations. Even though I’m a born-again TMS-SEPer, i’m careful not to proselytize. Luckily, thanks to all of you in the TMSwiki community, there’s lots of available resources for when we are ready. I’m so grateful i found you.
