I don't use Facebook much but thought I'd share the tms theory in a fibromyalgia group. Talk about putting a cat amongst the pigeons. Totally backlash and called every name under the sun. Suppose that is What I get for being a goodist lol

Well, I know that one school of fibromyalgia "experts" is busy looking for a virus that causes the disorder. They haven't found it yet, mind you, but some pain-management specialists are sure they'll find it someday (whether it exists or not!). That materialistic bias I'm afraid infects the whole pain management "industry" and probably accounts for the resistance you say you're encountering to TMS theory among members of your fibro group. I do know that Dr Sarno thinks of fibro as TMS writ large so to speak. I've heard quite a number of anecdotes that the onset of fibro symptoms did seem to come on shortly after a life stress event like a death in the family, loss of income, retirement, loss of job, even a traffic accident etc. etc. etc. Interesting from a psychological perspective that fibro does seem to occur much more often in female patients. I imagine that fibro patients would much rather be cured by an operation or a pill than having to go deep and deal with unpleasant, repressed emotions that are changing their neurobiology. Just a bias in our culture that impacts the whole field of lower lumbar pain and chronic pain in general.

Yup....a waste of time. The medical priest-class has utterly convinced everyone to look for the material cause of their malady.

“All professions are conspiracies against the laity” (George Bernard-Shaw)

not intentionally of course but there is a really strong need within Medicine and its associated industries to devise mechanical or pharmaceutical solutions to a problem. I worked in a major medical device R&D department that dealt with Cardiovascular systems and the burgeoning obesity epidemic/heart disease is seen as a boon for innovation/business.
They do come up with some ingenious solutions that really save lives but add to the 'patch-up' mentality that is rife. We expect instant cures and don't want to hear about other concepts.

I was on a fibromyalgia group and the arguments were circular and there wasn't any light at the end of the tunnel, I have deactivated my Facebook account since I joined this group in March. I doubt it's entirely there fault because as the old song says I've been afraid of changing because I've built my life around you. It depends on what group you go on,what time and many other factors because there are some looking for an end to the suffering.

Is the Fibromyalgia group on Facebook this one?

    https://www.facebook.com/FibroNetwork

Talks about simple blood tests to confirm the fibro diagnosis and talks about the benefits of taking melatonin I see.

No its a different group. There are many. There is no blood test. There is a research company that claim to but it's been highly criticised for being unreliable.

I shared links and success stories and was told why am I here if I'm not being supportive. I'm rubbing people's noses in it. I couldn't understand that argument. The group is full of gentle hugs and there there now. That kind of support. It's all doom and gloom to be honest. Don't think It's good for my healing to stay on it to be honest. I can see how resistant people are to it and how much criticism Sarno must have had to face over the years.

I heard it in a youtube video or somewhere a doctor told.. dr Sarno could no longer go the same lunch area along with his colleagues due to discrimination.

I left Facebook and 'For Fibro Men' the day I decided I needed to learn about TMS! I left behind several really close friends. I visited it without preaching TMS, and couldn't relate to what I was hearing, TMS totally changes the way I felt about what they were discussing. I couldn't relate anymore to it!

I have heard of this before. Here is a video of Dr. Robins taking about what happened to a woman that also did this. At 1:15 in, he mentions what happened to her when she told her fibromyalgia group about FasterEFT healing her Fibro.
I tried to embed this video and it would not accept it. Hopefully this copy and paste will work.

I've shared the video in same fibro group. Some are still talking to me. The few that have their own mind. I don't judge anyone for not buying into the idea tho. We have been made to think a certain way for far too long that's all.

Dr. Sarno also said that he could only help those who truly believed in TMS. Those that firmly believe their Fibro is being caused by a physical/structural issue, can not be helped with this knowledge. It is sad and frustrating and I am slowly learning to not waste too much energy on people that have Blinders on.

I did however have an interesting comment from a lady amongst all the others here it is

I actually believe that all dis-eases/ conditions are caused by our emotions either from ths lifetime or past lifetimes. If we are filled with complete joy, no dis-ease or condition can exist in the physical body. I also feel that everyone has some kind of mental illness - some worse than others. I know from personal experience that when I am in 'the moment' I feel no pain or fatigue. 'The moment' is when we are not consciously or sub-consciously thinking about the past or the future, for example before I paint, I worry about the pain I will feel after I've painted (the future - which is anxiety) and I think about when I didn't have fibro - the past - which is depression) but when I am actually painting - I feel no pain or fatigue because I am in 'the moment'...in the 'now'. There is a great book called 'The Power of Now' which explains this far better than I can.

It's a circular discussion where pain is constantly dissgussed and no real solution ever takes place. Dr's, the media etc have made chronic pain a joke, with no hope, or false hope of a lessening of pain. So it is no wonder they talk about pain all the time. When you can't work and lose almost everything that defined you, it is easy to see that the (so called)negativity is anger personified! tms on steroids. The anger helps some of these people in the groups feel in control, something they have almost lost. So we should exercise patients so that they might be willing to listen, and we might know how to respond.........however don't expect a great welcome. I have only been on an all male group and though tms was not a topic of discussion, their support for one another was unmatched! So, I could go back on the site and bring up TMS but, I would have no guarantees. The medical community must take the blame!
I wouldn't stop trying from time to time.
I just yesterday purchased Gobor Mate's book "When the Body says No" and it's a mind blowing book about the relationship between our emotions and our bodies.
I have only gone on the group once since leaving. But I might pay another visit.
