Back hurting again from an apparant "injury" working out.

Hi There,

I'm new and I know I'm a tms person and have recovered in the past from chronic back pain after realizing it. What happens with me is that occasionally I'll thing I've hurt myself working out or lifting something heavy, etc. and I'll go see a sports specialist and they'll work on it, I'll ice and take ibuprofen and stay off of it a few days and many times it just continues to hurt until it doesn't. Just recently, I was working out and the instructor put an 8 lb. weight between my feet as I was doing some crunches and I immediately thought, that's probably not a good idea and sure enough, my back started feeling irritated and the next day after doing another work out with heavier weights, I was really hurting. So I went to a sports specialist who did some tension relief therapy and I've iced and laid off of it several days but it still hurts and I'm wondering if it's not tms. All this being said, I know I'm stressed, anxious and having some fears and resentments. Could this be tms or could I have legitimately hurt myself? I guess I get confused when I hurt after working out because I don't know if it's legit or not. How do you know? What does it sound like? I guess I'll work out very lightly this weekend but it's so annoying.

Uh...sounds like TMS. That micro-though of "I don't think that's a good idea" is still your belief that the body is vulnerable, weak, easily injured....and of course you get a symptom. NEVER under estimate the power of suggestion, especially the ones emanating from your own mind!!!

Thanks that's what I thought. I worked out today too and just used light weights and got on the bike instead of running. My back hurt some during the workout but actually felt good afterwards. It's definitely sore but I can live with that.

I am right there with you. I did an hour long power pump video and I was not sure the next day if I was sore or it was TMS. I went with maybe a little of both. But I tried not to get overly concerned and did give myself a break for a few days. I will do it again but this time maybe just the 30 minute routine. I always push myself and then I'm not sure if I am feeling sore or TMS.

Remember that soreness after exercise isn't a bad thing, whether its TMS trying to mess with you or just regular old delayed onset muscle soreness or both :) I'm usually sore after my best workouts! If you'd seriously hurt yourself, you'd know (if you've ever had a broken bone or sports injury you know what I mean).
