  • My Story

I'm a 43 year old female who has been suffering from one ailment or another since my 1st pregnancy at 28y/o. During my 1st pregnancy, I began having numbness and nerve pain in my left leg. My leg would sometimes just give out. I was told this was my uterus putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. I did PT for the last 3 months of my pregnancy which allowed me to keep working as a physician assistant (PA) until delivery. Then with my 2nd pregnancy the sciatic nerve pain and symptoms returned, but earlier. This time I was in PT for 6 months of my pregnancy. I also gained a lot more weight with my 2nd pregnancy. Because I had C-sections with both of my pregnancies, the recovery was longer. But after my 2nd pregnancy, my body was never the same. But I just kept going on with life and would just try to ignore my aches and pains. I returned to skiing even though I had a partially torn right ACL tear from a fall on the slopes at age 26. We moved to for my husband's job when I was 32y/o. I found a new job as a PA soon thereafter and was getting used to our new home. Work became very stressful with increasing hours over the years and after 8 years there, I decided to leave. I had just turned 40y/o a few months before this. It took me awhile to get used to life as a stay-at-home mom. During this time, I became more involved in my kids schools and started a nonprofit cultural association of which I became the President. I was spending so much time on the nonprofit and was sitting a lot on the computer. Over the past few years, I've gained 25 pounds, went through early menopause, developed plantar fasciitis along with pain on top of my feet, tennis elbow, achilles tendinitis, became very inflexible, started to have shoulder, neck, and low back pain along with numbness and tingling in my arms and legs. I know I need to improve my food habits and that because my mom died a year ago, I've had a really hard time emotionally. But this has all caused me to feel like a failure and has decreased intimacy with my husband. My husband read Dr. Sarno's books first and found it helped the back and neck pain he's been suffering from the last year or so. So I read it and am hopeful that it will help me too. I'm ready to be rid of this pain so that I can get on with life and enjoy it.
