  • My Story

3 years ago may 2016 developed sciatic pain after pick axing in my yard left leg with numbness and severe degenerative disc disease at l5 s1. Ignored it until Dec 2018 it became worse foot used to go numb when I drive. Went to orthopedic surgeon did MRI stated same thing severe degenerative disc disease and I would eventually be in pain, which angered me and I became infuriated. He suggested to solve the problem I in fuwould fusion I would need a fusion. Tried physical therapy did nothing. Had two steroid injections 1 did nothing second made it worse and caused other problems. Even went to the er and had an MRI complete workup found nothing wrong but l5 S1 severe degenerative disk. I stopped all my regular workout routines based on physical therapists advice, which I think was a mistake. Got 2nd opinion at Yale New haven spine center and based on the MRI the doctor doesn't recommend surgery. Had EMG test no nerve damage. I'm at a crossroads. I'm in , lower back pain but mostly stiffness, legs especially calves feel numbness different sensations pins needles. Buttock hurts and can burn when I drive or sit. Tremendous amount of anxiety and panic. Read Dr. Sarno's book about two months ago, healing back pain, mind body prescription and Steve ozanich. I want to believe this started as TMS due to the stress I was under 3 years ago during a brutal divorce, child custody and financial problems. I started my first day today on TMS structured program. I actually journaled first time in years. I felt better mentally after writing. I could talk about symptoms all day but i am interested in healing and getting back to my life and do not want surgery especially a fusion. I believe dr.sarnos theory on TMS want to apply it to my life. Hoping to get some helpful suggestions.
