    Think psychologically

That's an interesting part, what that poster said. To focus on, say, your knee if you're not feeling pain there. Actually I think it means this. Focus on the part with the pain, and ask yourself "what emotion is that?" Then try to shut off your brain for a few seconds and just feel. Don't try...

    still wondering...

There's a point here that I haven't figured out. How does one deal with the perfectionist or goodist personality? Like what do you actually do? To the OP, I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my elbow. Then months later I was told I was "cured" and my physiotherapist didn't know why I still had...

    Journaling:typing vs writing

I found that writing frustrated me, because I type so much more quickly. But writing sometimes can be good.

    Please please please HELP!

Hi Eve, was I talking to you before? Your situation (where you are headed for Australia) sounds similar. Anyway, you're in Korea now, I lived there for a year. Based on that, I have a couple of suggestions. Do you enjoy jimjilbangs? That's one of the things I missed when i came back, try to go...

    New Symptom

I went for a run today (well, walk/jog intervals, the first day of the C25K program) it felt good, though I still have that little spasm sometimes with a deep breath. It's like it catches. Hopefully it will go away.

I did a complete forward bend to stretch . Now in lot of agony

It's interesting how sitting and laying in bed causes the most pain. This is what Dr. Sarno says, too, that it's when a person with TMS goes to rest for a while that the pain comes as a distraction.

Well, you can still write to us, so that's good. Just take it a bit at a time. As you said, the next couple of days will be hard, but after that, it'll get better. Drink lots of water and take care of yourself. Listen to soothing music.

    New Symptom

I've had TMS for about a year now, but it's been mostly in my arms/shoulder blades, particularly in my elbow (I thought I had tendonitis at first). I read Healing Back Pain in June, and started the program then. I finished the program a little while ago. I still have pain in my arms, but it's...

    Recurring nightmare

Well... my guess after reading it twice is that you feel like you aren't good enough, or maybe strong enough? Are you a perfectionist, maybe? That story with your Mom is harsh. It's hard to say if it's related. I don't know if this will help, but when I was a kid, I used to have a really...

    Looking for advice

I have been finding that taking care of myself helps. I don't have the same symptoms that you do -- because I knit, crochet, play video games and had a computer-heavy job, TMS showed up in my elbows, arms, and shoulders. It moved around a lot. I still feel a little pain now, but I know it's...

    Am a bit down today

Pain killers didn't work for me either. The reason for that is because it's TMS, so maybe if you reinforce that, it'll help? Next time you feel pain, remind yourself that pain killers don't work on you for that pain. Therefore, the cause is NOT structural, but psychological. It's a solid fact to...

TMS is nearly gone, but now I have FEELINGS, and they're scary.

Oh, that's good then :) So many people have lived in Korea, and for 7 years, wow. That's great that you bumped up the departure date and felt good about telling your dad about it.

TMS is nearly gone, but now I have FEELINGS, and they're scary.

Siblings are very confusing, and sibling relationships are not always easy. I have two sisters, and I love my sisters, but we also have problems. I think that is normal, and you don't owe your brother anything simply because he is your brother. That is an important thing to internalize, I...

My Body Is A Jumping Bean, Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

I think self-talk might help. Or even just time. How long have you been doing it professionally? I wonder if it would help to write down things like: "your name", professional photographer, or, wedding photographer. If you see it in writing, it might help. Really reinforce it for yourself, every...
