  • My Story

I have had TMS for the majority of my adult life. I was initially self diagnosed in 1992 which was confirmed by Dr Sarno for neck, shoulder and bladder pain. I found his book while waiting at the pharmacy counter for my RX to be filled. I thank God for that slow pharamicist as I might not have stopped and thumbed through the book if I was not "stuck" waiting for my meds. I saw myself in every chapter and felt he was writing about me, just like the song "killing me softly". I was young and newly married and had a great deal of stress in my life. I had such unconditional belief that I was suffering from TMS due to the fact that I had no structural issues causing my pain. I had seen several Drs and when through a multitude of tests and was on disability when I found the book. I was fortunate to have a book cure but relapsed after going back to work. I agreed to go into counseling with one of Sarno's folks and was pain free for about two years. I have not one had a neck ache since then, but TMS has manifested itself in many ways over the years. I later suffered from panic attacks and then hit the books again with success. I could have recited the book and script verbatim. About 4 years later I was diagnosed with Intercystial Cystitis and started with a new Sarno therapist who did not think my issue was TMS, so I lived with the pain for years as was told by a TMS expert that IC was not TMS and I am what I believe. I lived with IC and chronic pelvic pain for the better part of 15 years. It finally gave up as I began to focuse on life. Two years ago I lost a job I loved due to a large layoff and soon after this developed chronic nausea for more than a year. I lost 35 lbs, and then startrted getting painful heartburn and acid reflux. I decided to go back into counseling and am an avid reader of the TMSwiki forum. My symptoms have gradually started to resolve and am I am mostly pain free now thanks to all of the TMS community. I wish I had found the site sooner.
