Day 1 Will I loose my excuse?

My unexpected but honest answer to Day 1 question felt queasily contradictory. The excruciating pain that kept me bedridden for a week after my Dad died also allowed me to close out the world and wallow in a comfortable pity party. What would my life be without TMS? I’d be back taking care of all the people and things I feel a responsibility for. But maybe I’d also be able to dance again, to jump from rock to rock in the intertidal without fear of pain, to run, to enjoy sex with another again. Ok… I see I have TMS…but I’ve got to deal with stuff. I break down and take pain killers. I think this will delay my inner healing.

Great awareness! Through this work you can make some changes (they don't have to be big) so that you can take the pressure off of yourself and find more self-compassion. That way, the responsibilities become less burdensome + you get back all the things that you enjoy. You've hit the nail on the head in terms of the purpose of TMS, now it's about making that redundant by empowering yourself to handle it (whether that be solely through internal/mindset changes, or leaning on people more if possible without guilt) :)

This made me smile because it's a great reminder that if what you're doing creates discomfort, you're probably on the right path.

    Welcome to "the work"
