Why our brain distracts us from rage in unconscious mind

Hey All

I read that our brain is protecting us from rage in unconscious mind by producing pain. I am trying to understand what is it is trying to protect us from? Hypothetically, if the rage keeps growing in unconscious mind, what happens if there is no such thing thet brain distracts us from the rage. What is that worst thing that more dangerous than pain?

My apologies if this is a very basic question in TMS world.
