I seem to only get dickhead doctors. When I first went in to talk about my wrist pain the doctor referred me to a hand physio, which is fine, but I later realised his diagnosis on paper was that I had a "sprain" even after explaining how I've had this recurring pain for over five years!
The hand physios told me I've got tendonitis and it's not scary and will go away, I just need to do specific exercises to strengthen muscles and not overload the tendons.
I went to a different doctor who had no clue what to do with me except prescribe an anti-inflammatory and put me on the wait list to get an extremely expensive cortisone shot (thank god it never happened).
I went to a pain clinic and they said with such confidence that I don't just have inflamed tendons, but the tendons are likely covered in "micro-scars" from damage and I need their treatments to break down the scar tissue and get my mobility back. The mental image of tendons in my hand being torn up and scarred probably made the TMS symptoms worse. Of course I'd find out later from an ultrasound scan that this was complete BS.
When I later talked to a hand specialist she was much more logical about it and recognised if it's something I've suffered with for this long, then it's very likely it will be a thing I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life. The best I could hope for is finding whatever small wins I can get by making lifestyle changes and using my hand as little as possible. That one stuck with me because it seemed the most realistic outcome.
