Today I drove from southern NJ up to NYC to NYU Langone medical center. I met with Dr. Rashbaum and had a 45 minute assessment and yes, I got a positive diagnosis. The assessment was very thorough, Hospital gown and all! He did a complete neurological check and asked a ton of questions. We went over my health history (and all of the things that I have been diagnosed with in the past, that frankly were 100% wrong! (examples include: GERD, Stuttering and the highlight was an MRI of my hip from 10 years ago and the surgeon wrote a note declaring in no uncertain terms that I would need a new hip in five years time). After all of this, Dr Rashbaum stops, shakes my hands and says "Congratulations, you have it!".
I realize that many people don't need to take this step. It was important to me to get a diagnosis because I am sick and tired of chasing the wrong issues. For example: The asthma that I was diagnosed with in July? Thats gone too!
The hiccup came at the end of the appointment: We all know about Dr Sarno's lectures. Dr Rashbaum does them too! (they are expensive and a little out of reach for me). He gave me the information anyhow and asked that even if I don't attend the lectures, that I consider coming in for a followup in a few months.
I know its not the latest research (and now I need to find a DVD player) but I chose the next best option. I bought the DVD's of Dr Sarno giving his lecture.
All in all a productive day.
