I have recently started writing haikus as a way to get out all of my thoughts, especially those related to my TMS. I've been journaling and always have SO much to write about. Haikus give me a break and get me to condense a big deep thought down into only a few lines. Much easier to digest, and brings some fun into really difficult subjects. I thought I might share a few here incase some of you can relate. Disclaimer: I never write poetry and I don't claim these to be good haikus! But they are at least truthful.
My brief personal story: I have had chronic back pain and other symptoms for 2 years. I recently got diagnosed with TMS and after a few months, am about 90% better. I'm going back to work in a month! My journey with TMS and myself will still continue though.
Also, if you'd like to try it, please contribute some haikus! I'd like to read about others experiences in this form as well.
My back pain is gone!
Pressure turned pain to habit
Now I hear myself
Constant exhaustion
Looking deep inside yourself
All for the first time
Never quite enough
I must push on somehow
Gratitude is good
Tried to blame myself
It wasn’t mine to control
You really did great
I have been so lost
But have found footing again
Still I want to scream
Love and accept you
Do the same to others too
That’s all you can do
My new motto is:
“It’s usually okay”
Hard to remember.
I lost things I loved
Everything as I knew it
Never been so sad.
Forgiveness is hard
Take what you put on others
See it in yourself
Bad thoughts comes around
I gently watch them be there
Slowly there is space
One day I felt pain
The things I loved disappeared
But hey, pain’s gone now!
My thoughts defined me.
I made them, nobody else.
Now I mourn the past.
Anxiety comes.
Is it skewing the truth?
Or can I indulge?
Pressure all the time.
I can’t let myself know good.
That will keep me safe.
