Day 16 Symptom Imperative

Nissim

Newcomer
I've always found the Symptom Imperative such a fascinating idea that made so much sense. To me, it's the brain doing all it can to keep us distracted from the difficult emotions until we prove to it that they aren't dangerous after all.

I have been experiencing this in full force lately. I recently stopped my migraine preventative and have spent maybe an hour a day working on the mindbody approach. My IBS disappeared overnight from a change in diet around 6 months ago. But once I buckled down the past few weeks on the mindbody approach, while my pain started to subside the IBS issues started to perk up. My pattern now is a few days of very manageable discomfort in the head with uncomfortable IBS symptoms. Then the head pain will be pretty tough for a few days while the IBS symptoms disappear.

It's really exciting to see this entire journey working as has been taught. I was laughing at my stomach discomfort since I preferred it over the head pain. If anyone has any tools to help me teach the brain which symptom to choose, I'm all for it!

Have a great day!
