Seeking Support for Muscle Tension Dysphonia

Hello all! I'm new here and this is my first post. I have been diagnosed with Muscle Tension Dysphonia, a voice disorder where the muscles in my neck spasm causing pain and making it difficult to talk. Have been suffering for nearly 2 years, and have gone to a gazillion doctors. The best they can offer me is Botox injections in the neck. Yuck! I know I can heal myself--with your help.

Anybody else out there with MTD? Want to learn TMS techniques and get relief. Can we talk?

Hi

Sorry to hear you are suffering. I've been diagnosed with the same thing, and have been in pain and extreme tension whenever using my voice for nearly a year. I feel I've tried everything. Maybe look at some of my other posts to get a better idea and see if we are suffering from the same thing. Maybe we could exchange notes!

Keep going ;)

Hi, JayTeeDee. I'm glad you prefer not getting Botox injections for you neck spasms. Pain killers may relieve pain for a while, but it seldom lasts and patients often are put on higher doses which make them become addicted to the medication and it only makes things worse.

I suggest you start the Structured Educational Program, free in the subforum of this web site. It will help you to discover the emotional causes of your pain.

Here is a good brief explanation of TMS and how to heal from its pains, from a man in Oregon:

Your symptoms are a messenger. When we try to avoid our symptoms, it's like shooting the messenger that is telling you that your house is in fire. It doesn't deal with the problem, it only attempts to act like there is no problem. Embrace your symptoms and recognize them for what they are, simply a messenger telling you that you have stuff to deal with.

Hi tennis tom

Muscle tension dysphonia is quite different to spasmodic dysphonia. K had the same problem when trying to get help here, everyon linked me to spamodic dysphonia threads.

There is very little info on muscle tension dysphonia. I am also trying to work out if it is tms or not and how to approach this problem I've been dealing with for nearly a year now.

...have gone to a gazillion doctors.
What do they say? Have they found anything "structural"?

"If it ends with "itis" or "algia" or "syndrome" and doctors can't figure out what causes it, then it might be TMS." : Dave the Mod @ TMS Help

Hey I just made this video, maybe it can help? Also, try meditation, yoga and
psychotherapy. You must be like a detective and try try try many things to get to the root of the problem.
sending love to you! xoxo
