It would seem I never retired. But I did, long ago, from working for a large corporation. Had I the TMS knowledge back then, I might have been more chill, but I only knew one speed at a hundred mph. Driven to succeed, it got me there fast but at a cost. The two big invoices were for back pain and anxiety.

Fast forward into early retirement, I began writing novels and magazine articles instead of annual reports. Only this time around, I was doing what I loved.

When rejections rather than acceptances came, I worked even harder. I competed for awards, wrangled interviews, won some contests, carrying along the fear that I might never see my trilogy published.

My back pain increased, my anxiety grew, depression set in. Still, I dug in and worked all the harder. When a publisher bought my first book, a different kind of pressure arrived simultaneously. My beloved husband became ill. I had no skill to address this upheaval and 100 mph didn’t apply.

After his death, my engine stopped running. Along the long journey of caregiving, my back pain and anxiety picked up new friends. You name it, I had it.

    Enter Sarno et al…

Today, I’m writing again. Only this time I’ve learned to do what I love at a slower speed. Often, just coasting is better than going too fast.
