Practice Random Acts of NON-GOODISM

Tennis Tom

Beloved Grand Eagle
It's good to be good, but it's better if you mean it, not doing it automatically or autonomically speaking, due to your OCD/ TMS personality compelling you to . Practice random acts of NON-GOODISM--practice makes non-perfect. Do, or DON'T do something today, that you would have normally felt guilty about and tell about it at this thread. I will start it off by NOT listing one of my own--but it's early, I'm in bed and no one awake to diss. Perps will be kept anonymous to protect the guilt ridden.

Today I had a routine blood test to make my doc's physician's assistant happy, the anti-receptionist at the lab was very perfunctory, "Take a number, be seated and wait until you are called!" I was equally perfunctory to her, grunting back. On the other hand the lady who drew my blood was very friendly and chatty, perhaps trying to make up for Miss Perfunctory at bad-reception. She mentioned she quit playing tennis 20 years ago due to "back problems" and had tried everything but surgery. I told her about Dr. Sarno and wrote down his name on a piece of paper. She mentioned she had also been a top-bowler until her back issues and toughed things out. I'm pretty sure she will look up Dr. Sarno and she will be helped, she was a very positive person and I didn't mind leaving my blood with her--hate having to fast though, no coffee in the morning leaves me like a zombie the rest of the day.

Yesterday I was "invited" to lunch by someone who only talks to me when he wants something for free. At first I said NO and then kiddingly said, "I'll join you--if you're buying!"--he grudgingly said yes. I watched as he devoured his plate before I even got mine--his place--without even looking over my way. A polite person waits until everyone has their food, or those without say to go ahead and eat before it cools off.

The entire conversations was about HIM. Then he gave me his pitch for what he wanted out of me. I told him, "SURE, you got it!"--which I might follow through on--or I might not, depending on how many more times he needs to remind me, and maybe buy me another lunch or three.

On the way out I accidentally kept the napkin in my hand--I didn't go back in to return it--I left it at the outside entrance. I hope I don't go to hell for this?

I insisted at a call center that the attendant hold on with me, even though he suggested I could "finish the on-line work without his help" several times. I held the line politely but firmly.

At a family birthday event Sunday, I barely talked to my elderly mother in the nursing home where this birthday party was held. I always feel completely guilty if I don't treat Mom with love and niceties. I don't hate her, I just don't have a lot of affection or bonding with her and I often feel obligated to extend myself. However, I just sat there and engaged in conversation with pretty much everyone else because I honestly had nothing to say to Mom and I didn't feel guilty over it at all! I also didn't give her a kiss or a hug goodbye... something I always do but do not usually feel affection doing it. I do it because it's the "right" thing to do. This time I chose not to.
