Positive my condition is TMS.. BUT

ShaneM

Peer Supporter
Hey all; after extensive research on both my parent condition (RSI) and the condition which I now believe I suffer from (TMS) I have come to the conclusion that it's EXTREMELY likely I suffer from TMS. I am now approaching the problem as TMS and healing it with regard to that notion. However; there is a huge milestone holding me back.

During the time in which I believed to have RSI I would obviously rest my hands completely for weeks on end. The problem here is I was constantly on the boundary of believing I had TMS, and therefore would switch healing approaches frequently. With this I'd have 2 weeks of complete rest and then use the computer much too much in one day (say.. 7 hours of constant use). Now I'm considering; what if resting my hands for a long period of time and then using them quite a bit too quickly could have done actual damage? Even if the condition started as TMS could I have damaged myself with this stop and go? I'm afraid I may have and it's holding me back from believing the TMS approach could cure me.

If it helps at all during the times that I rested I still frequented the gym, so my hands were never completely out of use. I just assume lifting weights and typing/clicking are two very different activities and use different muscles. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hi, Shane.
Doctor Sarno assures us that we won't hurt ourselves more if we stay active.
In your case, since you lifted weights, when you have pain in your hands from being on the computer,
it means to me that your pain is pure TMS. You may very well have conditioned your mind to associate
typing on the computer keyboard with pain. Now you have to deprogram your mind to tell it that the
pain has nothing to do with using the computer. But 7 hours is a long time to be at the computer or any activity.
And you say that was/is in "constant use." You need to take breaks from the computer, every 15 minutes or
half hour. Stand and stretch, make fists, wiggle your fingers. Take deep breaths.

And believe 100 percent that your pain is caused by TMS. That means you have to discover repressed emotions,
very likely going back to your childhood.

I've been on the computer for 4 hours this morning and am feeling some neck pain. I'll take a few minutes
to get up and stretch. I keep a yoga stretching video on my desktop and will watch it now for a few minutes.
And just move my head and neck a little.

ShaneM, I agree with Walt. You have doubts and you have pain and they are all based on conditioning. Observe this, and don't believe the thoughts or pain, as best you can. Don't "overdo" the computer use, but don't believe that it is causing pain either. Do the TMS SEP or other program, and dismiss symptoms as best you can. We all have a tendency to doubt the TMS diagnosis. Observe this and don't believe the doubts...

To make a slight correction; I still suffer from pain whilst lifting weights. My pain is constant and never goes away regardless of what I'm doing, it's just at it's worst when using the computer or writing. Biking seems to relieve the pain quite a bit which strikes me as odd - making me feel that it's a blood flow problem. Thanks for the feedback thus far guys!

You can't damage your hands keyboarding, even if you do it 8 hours a day inconsistently, so stop worrying about that at least. :)

RSI is like, the TMS-iest TMS that ever TMSed. Keep goin! You'll get there.
