Medication/Nerve specialist

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go as I know I meed both feet here but the nerve issues have not been looked at by a specialists. I have had many other test/scans and bloods all negative but I was thinking I should get this looked into . The nerve pain jumps around my face, left to right to noes inside and out, then numb also the rib, arm pain is prickly and painful so I just thought I better see somebody in this area . I was also wondering if taking a mild anti anxiety medication for now would not hinder my TMS recovery. I just need something to help sleep and calm me. I realise having one foot in and one out isn't helpful but these nerve test are the last things I think I should look at. My brain MRI came back clear the other day so no MS or anything. Thank you for your advice

Hi Bex
Congrats on a normal MRI.
Beware that a common side effect of benzos is terrible weepy depression.
I don't know much else about what you describe but I wish you healing, for sure!

Thank you. I was on a very low dose of amitriptyline a few months ago and it helped me sleep but I came off it cos I didn't think it helped the pain. To be honest I just want something to help me rest as sleeping is challenging x

Tylenol can be surprisingly effective as a temporary relaxant. Several years ago I had to have a benign growth removed from next to my Achilles tendon, which was a tricky procedure with risk of nerve damage, in addition to which I hadn't gone under general anesthesia since I had my tonsils out at age 5 - so I was quite anxious. They had me take 1000mg of acetaminophen (eg Tylenol), not really explaining why, but then it turned out my procedure was delayed, and I fell asleep and had a nice little nap while waiting. I was quite calm when I woke up and they finally started prepping me.

I also remember reading about a study, just a couple of years ago, which discovered that acetaminophen, much to everyone's surprise, has a calming effect on emotional distress.

Of course we have to remember that due to liver toxicity, long term use of acetaminophen is not sustainable, and my pre-surgery dose was definitely too much to take more than very occasionally.

@Bex1111, I responded re the type of med, but didn't answer what I think is your real question, one that is often asked due to a perception that taking medications will hinder TMS recovery.

Dr Sarno himself said that sometimes we need a little help to get started, or to deal with a setback. The key is to see your use of medication as a temporary tool, in order to calm your mind and symptoms enough to effectively apply yourself to your plan of action. Always use it with a long term goal where you can visualize being medication-free.

Yes thank you so much . I never wanted to take anything but I am struggling with everything with lack of sleep too so hopefully the medication can just help with that.
