Is Jock Itch and other fungal infections TMS?

I tried searching the Forum for the terms but nothing came up.

Have had it for almost 2 months now. I'm 39, turning 40 soon. Single, with elderly parents. I am juggling a lot of different priorities at the same time now so stress has been very high the past few months. Not looking forward to turning 40 lol. I remember I first got TMS about a month after I turned 30 (it was back pain at that time).

Just wasnt sure if this is TMS or purely physical/medical?

I would think being perpetually stressed and in fight or flight would weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible/difficult to fight it off.

I’ve had ringworm a few times from working with animals and doing martial arts. Is it not responding to treatment? I know we’re not supposed to give medical advice but I had decent success cleaning with betadine from the outside towards the center of the rash, drying then applying clotrimazole in a circular motion from outside towards center then covering with hypafix (sticky adhesive bandage type thing).

I tried clotrimazole for a few days but I couldnt tell if it was helping. Im going to try Terbinafina now.

Yeah definitely feeling like im at a midlife crisis stage, feel like I moved too slow in my 20s and early 30s on my goals. Trying to go faster now but my body isnt happy with me. And of course parenral pressures from not having a family yet. Tired of the city ive been in. Feel like my identity is shifting.

It can be! I would trust in the antibiotics and take that as a strong TMS sign if they don't work (and other possibilities have been ruled out).

Personally, I had a bad rash which I thought was TMS and let it go for a while. Topical creams did nothing which made me even more convinced. I finally decided to see a dermatologist, and he told me it was a fungal infection (clearly seen under a microscope). I can't remember how long I was on antibiotics for, but it cleared it up and I've never seen it again - the power of medicine where it is applicable!

I probably had that rash for a year - and that was as a result of my stubbornness to not see anyone. I am not trying to push you away from TMS, but at the same time don't be too quick to assume here without getting it properly checked

It can take weeks to for anti fungaltopicals to work, when I had ringworm on my inner thigh ( jockitch) it took weeks for clotrimazole to work, and that was with bleaching it first (ouch don’t do that, listened to a silly coworker), covering it after applying the ointment was what made a difference for me. Whether that’s recommended method at this point I have no idea. The covering keeps the ointment on longer and I imagine would make the fungal spores harder to spread.

I think you should treat this medically while addressing the underlying emotions and stress going on in your lfie.

Do you mean cover as in clothing, or a bandaid?

I’d cover mine lightly with hypafix, which is an adhesive that is safe on skin and used in medical settings. I’d typically rub in a small amount in the manner described above and then put a thin layer over it and cover loosely. You don’t want it so tight that no air gets to it. I also clean the skin beforehand with betadine.

again not a doctor, I work as a veterinary nurse and have treated several animals with ringworm as well as myself, so take what I say however you want. Ringworm is tricky, the biggest mistake people probably make is not adequately drying their skin after showering and also rubbing the cream from the center outwards rather than vice versa as this is just moving the more active infection/spores to healthier skin

I went to a doctor about 5 days after applying Terbinafina cream twice a day. They said they dont see a fungal infection. The think its more general irritation. They recommended bapenthen sensicalm without cortisol . They said it should help to give it a chance to heal. Anyways pretty confusing because the redness was a wider area a few weeks ago. But it almost feels more irritated now. If her dignosis is correct, then this may be more TMS adjacent (since it’s not a fungus supposedly). Dotor said its a combination of rubbing, warm weather, stress and thus lowered immune system. Ill apply the cream but im a bit confused by the whole situation.

EDIT/UPDATE:

I went to a Dr office (FNP-C) back home. They said they werent sure what it was, but they saw redness (more than a few days ago). They prescribed me a few things (Doxycycline Hyclate 1xday for 10 days, and clotrimazole+betamethosone dipropionate cream. I will try and see how it does.
