I need some counsel about the reality of inflammation causing pain. I'll try to be brief...
I've been following this path of TMS/ MBS/ neuropathic pain for 20+ years since I saw Dr Sarno, with several & various episodes of pain being resolved. I'm currently in a pretty severe leg/hip/knee issue that's been going on for over a year, the longest bout ever. The pain moves, and it's severity changes, so it is indeed neuropathic pain. The MRI showed what the orthopedic docs call severe arthritis (which I know is normal aging for a 61-year-old) and of course they recommended a shot, and ultimately hip replacement.
My wife, who seemed to really understand what this is, has been pushing me to use a particular natural anti-inflammatory product for relief. I have explained that placebo cures may work for people who don't know the truth about chronic pain, but it won't work for me because I know the truth and have seen it work in my life for over two decades.
In Dr Sarno's books he claims that there is no evidence for the inflammation that the medical community keeps talking about. I haven't found anything on the internet except that inflammation causes all kind of pain, but these are the same doctors that want to do the surgeries. Understanding in this field has grown much since Dr Sarno, so I would like to know:
Is "inflammation" real, and does it cause pain?
Thanks
