Is damage from a loose patella TMS or something real?

    Hey guys.

My sister at 13 has hypermobility and a loose patella from birth.

Her pediatric orthopedic recommended she get a Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) Reconstruction surgery.

She has no current tears or dislocations in her knees, just a patella that is always dislocated and loose.

Here is the surgery: https://www.hss.edu/conditions_medial-patellofemoral-ligament-reconstruction-mpfl.asp (Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) Reconstruction | HSS)

The surgery has been around about 15 years or so. It is becoming very popular nowadays as a means for normalizing the knee.

The orthopedist says this is preventative.

Are all the knee injuries that come from patellar tracking/loose patella TMS, or does this orthopedist have a valid point here?

I don't want her to be like those back pain patients that shaved off their discs when it was TMS.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from y'all soon!
