I believe that not only can TMS help with my numb toes and pain. I believe it will help with my anxiety and depression ( although there was some reference in week 0 regarding anxiety and depression) I know I have something that is being repress and I’m not sure what that is, or why I cannot seem to look at what is being repressed. I don’t known what it is I’m afraid to see. Anger, sadness, or? I do believe it is all in my subconscious mind. Just writing this, I can feel myself wanting to shut down, and not look or deal with anything.

Welcome to the forum and the SEP, @MJG. Indeed, the ideas here are surprisingly simple, but they are not easy to put into practice because our brains are used to shutting down the frightening emotions - our brains have a primitive and mistaken belief that this will keep us physically safe in the wilderness. In today's modern world, most of us are fortunate that we don't live in physical danger - but most of us are really stressed out, and some of us developed very repressive and dysfunctional coping mechanisms in childhood.

Therefore, the first thing we have to do is convince our brains that we are physically safe and that doing this work can't physically hurt us.

I recall how HARD it was to force myself to write certain things down when I did the SEP many years ago, but it was totally worth it. I survived, and I also recovered from my symptoms when I was able to acknowledge and accept the repressed emotions as not dangerous. It was very freeing.

    Keep us posted!
