I’ve begun openly discussing TMS with people

I went to a gathering yesterday to see friends I haven’t seen in a few months. My TMS brain didn’t want me to go. One of my main symptoms haS been GI issues, which largely have been resolved. But yesterday before heading out for the 90 minute commute, I had significant nausea, and stomach pain, 4 months ago I would’ve flaked and felt mentally poor after and had major regrets for bailing, I pushed on, knowing the underlying psychological cause, once there I had minor stomach pain but zero nausea, nothing debilitating. A huge victory and further proof.

Another win is that I have begun discussing TMS with unaware people. A friend mentioned having significant acid reflux and is now on meds for it which seem to help, but he wants off them. He has no interest in an endoscopy. This is someone I am fairly close with but lost contact, he has quite a lot going on in his personal life, and the reflux was brought on after a stressful illness. I brought up Sarno and the brains ability to keep sensations going or even create them seemingly out of thin air. He was losing interest in the conversation and thought I was recommending him going to a neurologist, I just smiled and said no. He looked at me like I had 2 heads.

Another friend asked me what I was reading, and I explained mainly books on mind body medicine, and gave a brief synopsis of what it is. Again he looked at me like I was speaking another language, and the conversation changed.

I used to talk about my symptoms to anyone who asked, now I just say my brain is being silly and if they ask me what I mean, I explain. I’m no longer embarrassed by all this and no longer need sympathy from others regarding my situation.

I’m still so in the thick of this work, but it has genuinely saved my life, I was genuinely considering ending my life back in December and January. I want to share this knowledge with whoever is receptive!

Nice picture, Chrono Trigger is a great game. People in my life barely listened to mindbody work in the beginning but now that I'm very physically fit at 38 years old they listen a little more. The vast majority of people want to see you run through walls unscathed to believe it's real. If you have even a little niggle of pain someone can say "well, shouldn't the mindbody stuff have healed you?" Meanwhile physically therapy decreases pain by 10% for a week and everyone tells you to do it. It'll be a very slow spread but as more people get better and talk about it it'll eventually grow. I don't know how you feel now but I think you should get really into fitness because when people see the results they are more inclined to listen.

Yup! That’s my next work in progress to get back in shape, I still get a bit sad to compare my body now to a year ago, I’ve lost about 20 lbs mostly muscle, but I know I can get it back, and won’t have to worry about breaking my body in the process.

and yes CT is my favorite game ever. Frog is an inspiration

    Congratulations on your great successes.
As you talk more about it, don't be surprised if people look at you like you have two heads or if they smile and humor you and pretend to go along with you.
It's nice to be able to help other people experience the benefits but ultimately people usually need to find this on their own when they are ready. Sometimes you are lucky and the timing is right.

Either way, what matters if that you've learned how you can live your best life. Enjoy!

The conversation I had yesterday that prompted me to write my post about "The game" was a (most likely wasted) description of Sarno's theory to my Ex GF who is plagued by all sorts of TMS type syndromes.

I have noticed that people who do the 'How My Day went' 12 step gripe meetings, tend to have a LOT of TMS which is proof positive that being 'aware of your problems' isn't THE problem.
That is the hardest portion of Sarno to communicate, and I'm glad people's recovery doesn't depend on my speaking skills. Of the dozen people I have told about Sarno who READ the whole book, 100% of them got better.

There is some magic property in reading that verbal discussion can never replace . I always end any inquiry by explaining that I can't explain it. "The game" again (LOL)

If talking about problems healed anything, I never would have reached a point where I needed Sarno. There is some real magic in the actual text.

I don’t often mention it. Most folks nod, discuss it and brush it off. Doing the “work” impacts their habitual lifestyles and they aren’t ready or truly interested.
I do not talk about my symptoms at all unless it is with my TMS coach or my PT.. and don’t even talk much about it with the PT anymore. I have discussed TMS with my pt, dr. (Not a believer), dentist and opthomologist and given them some books. They now give books to patients or referrals if needed.
My friend know (my struggles have been very visible) and are kind and thoughtful, and totally respect me choosing not to talk about it except for one friend who now knows she also has it.

I wonder if most people "have it" to some degree.
People sure do take a lot of pain and other meds.

I would change most to "all" and wonder to "think".

I could add "but that's just me" except that I think it's really you too, @Booble :hilarious:

It's good to see you again :joyful:

Wellllll........you got me. I hate to talk in absolutes but yes, it seems likely that simply based on the fact that we are all humans that we all experience what we call TMS.

    Thanks, good to be back!
