After having some bloods done for a separate issue unrelated to my eye pain/ dry eye the doctor has found I have low estrogen which has made her say aha I've found the root of the dry eye issue. But my question is can TMS cause hormonal issues OR could the hormone levels be just another normal abnormality?

I doubt this is TMS, it's just hormonal imbalance. I've been having severe hormonal issues since puberty. It sucks, I know...

Thank you for your reply, yes it does suck for sure, I've never had any symptoms of hormone imbalance before and it started randomly at 30 so strange how your body can change.

IMO there's never a bright hard line. NEVER. Not even when I crashed my bike in 2008 (three years before I first read Dr Sarno) and went to the ER with a fracture of my femur and a pain level of about 8. My pain level plummeted the instant I was told that they could insert pins into my femur and have me on crutches in two days.

The intensity of my pain for a 100% real physical injury was 100% generated by my brain, as are all sensations. When I stopped being fearful of the outcome, the pain subsided to a manageable level that was just enough to remind me to behave appropriately for the next six weeks, and I refused all opioids and made do with ibuprofen and tylenol even after surgery.

I have sudden-onset RA that developed in 2020 at the advanced age of 69, brought on by multiple sources of extreme stress while I was being mindless about the effect of the stress on my body. My old rheumatologist (male, close to retirement) had no other explanation. My new rheumatologist (young and female) agrees with me. It's been well-managed since then on a low level of the most basic old-school RA med, with zero side effects, because I understand what happened and I believe in my ability to keep it under control.

We Can end up with physical abnormalities from stress - everyone knows this. I'm old enough to remember when the news first came out about "Type A personalities" getting more heart attacks.

My advice is to not be too quick to accept that your hormonal symptoms do not have a TMS component. Especially if you have a history of anxiety and stress.

This is really helpful because I think the point I'm at is that yes maybe I have dry eye caused by something underlying (like you had an obvious injury) but I 100% believe that the pain I experience from it is disproportionate to what is actually wrong with my eyes. In fact I've also been told by an eye doctor that the only explanation as to why I'd be experiencing so much pain would be nerve damage as what they could see under the microscope didn't match my pain level. I had my nerves checked - nothing wrong with them. This is when I found Nicoles work and my TMS awareness began about 6 months ago. I can accept that my eyes will feel a bit dry maybe because of my hormones but I'm going to continue this work for the pain level, I started at a 10/10 pain and I'm generally at a 5/10 these days so it's definitely worked to help lower my stress.

Yes. This is a great approach.
