This is my second post on this forum—I went into some detail on my story so far in my other post but as I understand it it's not that important what my symptoms are.

I'm very excited to begin the SEP. To be honest, I thought the program seemed a little bit ridiculous when I first stumbled onto it—just a bunch of open-ended journaling prompts. But having actually read and watched the material from the first day I can start to see that a lot of thought was put into this. I truly felt more persuaded of the TMS diagnosis once I sat through the video 20/20 video with Sarno. I wonder how much his cure rate had to do with his comforting voice!

My pain seems to have lifted a little this evening as I'm doing this work, which I'm sure can only be a good sign.

Anyway, I'm posting to keep myself honest. I'm going to do my very best to stick with this, and to otherwise maybe stop spending time researching TMS outside of this unless I'm reading a book on it.

It is a good sign that you've had a positive response. I know myself that I felt lifted in spirit and some of my symptoms improved somewhat too when I knuckled down and began doing 'the work'. However, beware of possibly making the mistake of always judging progress by what your symptoms are doing; don't think that if your symptoms go back to where they were that doing 'the work' isn't working for you. For some people it might be a straight path of losing symptoms, but more often than not the trajectory of recovery isn't linear - there can be ups and downs symptoms-wise, so if/when that happens don't be discouraged -- What will be happening is that the work you're doing will be working on your brain 'in the background', without you realising it.
Imo a great attitude and approach!
Yes, what symptoms you have is irrelevant - as, with TMS, the brain can create all manner of symptoms; recovery is all about 'thinking psychological'. It's really good that you have taken this on board as a lot of people have trouble with this.

Welcome to the forum, btw! Wishing you well on your recovery 'journey'.

Excellent start,@cafe_bustelo, and I also am impressed at how quickly you have taken seriously the important recommendations that you don't mention symptom details once you've committed to doing the work! In my many years of observations, just the ability and willingness to do this one thing is what leads to success. It's the difference between a proactive state of mind that can visualize recovery vs a victim mentality that will never get there.

Come back to this Day 1 thread anytime things get tough, to remind yourself that it's all part of the zigzag path to recovery -and also to remind yourself of the proactive mindset that will get you past the setbacks. And don't hesitate to ask for support, because we're here to help you hang in there. At this point you certainly have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
