Headache Help (journaling)

Hi everyone.

I’ve been dealing with constant 24/7 head pressure for the past month and a half, with many other neurological symptoms including but not limited to: muscle weakness, twitching, eye pain/visual disturbances, trouble swallowing, jaw pain, tooth sensitivity, chest pressure, pins & needles, ect.

Before you ask, yes I have been to the doctor and have had MRIs, lumbar punctures, you name it. My neurologist (who is also a multiple sclerosis specialist) is unconcerned with my results and says I will get better with time. Something causes my immune system to attack itself for whatever reason.

While this is a real diagnosis (kind of?) I am still at a loss. I am only 21 and had to take a semester off of college to deal with all of this because it’s becoming too much.

In the beginning I was doing lots of googling and scared myself that my headache would never go away (ndph for those who know). Now I’ve found the TMS/MBS route and I’m hoping this is what’s causing my problems and will hopefully help me.

My problem is that I’m afraid to start journaling because I don’t want to cry. Crying exacerbates my headache, which is already hard enough to live with, and the last time I cried I ended up in the hospital because it was so bad (two weeks ago). What should I do? Should I just ride it out?

Tomorrow I’m going to call and see if I can get an appointment with Peter Zafirides who is in my area.

I just want to go back to living a normal life and being myself again, which in and of itself makes me want to cry. I’m tired of pretending I’m not in discomfort all. the. time. Anyone else have similar symptoms to mine and recover? Kudos to people who read this far.

thanks. :)

You don't have to journal in order to heal. I did not have any luck with journaling and stopped it after few weeks, but I still fully healed. I had involuntary muscle contractions, pins and needles and pain. Meditation and mindfulness brought my anxiety down and healed my nervous system, and then symptoms started fading away. You can heal!

Thank you for sharing that. I have those same symptoms and I can’t get my brain out of anxiety mode. Journaling does not help and it is something I have always done anyway. When you say mindfulness do you mean just really focusing on the moment and environment?

There may be various interpretations of this word, depending on the context. What I meant here was being more aware of my emotions and my reactions to the events of my life. That alone helped a lot.
