I got up from work one lunchtime with foot pain in my right foot. One week later my knee started hurting so I couldn't cycle. Eventually I required crutches. I had colour and temperature changes in my feet. This lasted 9 months until I discovered mind body syndrome, specifically a Howard Schubiner Video and experienced an immediate decrease in symptoms. One week later my left foot started hurting. I went down the MRI spiral again. And then my ankles went. A year after it started I had experienced back spasms, pins and needles that lasted days, sharp wrist and elbow pain, ankles, knee and foot pain. I had the moments of relief that made no sense. For example symptoms dissappearing when I had a good time with friends or went on holiday.

Finding Mind Body Syndrome made things worse for me at first, because I was putting so much pressure on myself to recover with visualisation, meditation, journalling etc. Eventually I found the YouTube channel Pain Free You and learnt that I didn't have to do those things. I could teach my brain safety by having 100% confidence that there was no structural damage and get back to living my life.

3 weeks after finding that YouTube Channel I was walking so well, until I shattered my knee in a scooter accident. I was terrified that I would have no control over the chronic pain but I applied the same principles to the many many symptoms that popped up in the following year, and eventually my bones and my pain recovered. So if you experience real damage in the midst of your chronic pain journey know that although it does become confusing what's real and what's not, you can get through it. Trust the scans, trust your doctors when they tell you it's safe and apply the principles of TMS.
