    Hello,

I am experiencing muscle twitches almost everywhere including my glutes and perineum. They are not constant but I usually get a couple in my glutes and perineum daily. I also get penis hypersensitivity pain (very mild) and paresthesia different body parts. Anyway, I’ve had an operation in January to repair my ureter that connects to my kidney. Since then, I’ve had these symptoms. I’m growing frustrated and depressed about them. I don’t know how to make them stop. I’m 39 years old and I feel broke. I’ve tried PT, stretches, Gabapentin, yoga, etc. My imaging didn’t pick up any nerve damage that they could see. Can these twitches and spasms be mind body even in my perineum? I notice them mainly when I sit down. So, I get a little leery of sitting down or going places.

Definitely can be mind/body and seems is one of the common experiences of a lot of people.

I experienced not only twitches, but literally nerve jerks for months. Several times I was holding something in my hand and the nerve jerk literally made me drop whatever it was. It would move around and when I would lay down to sleep, so many twitches and jerks in various parts of my body. It was completely unsettling.
But, then I finally just allowed them to be there, no reacting or imagining the future or anything like that.

And, as my nervous system got more and more regulated and I even sort of welcomed them in a way with curiosity (it became pretty interesting), they completely disappeared.
Hope this is helpful and that you will keep getting out there and living your life. This is such an important key to all of this!

I’m new to all of this but have booked a session with a TMS therapist where I live. Maybe they can help me. I’ve done all that I can think of. I want to thrive and not be scared of these sensations.

Exact same for me. It goes away as your nervous system heals. Read Hope and Help for Your Nerves, by Claire Weekes. It will explain what’s happening and how to fix it.

I will say my neuropathy sensations were really minimal cause I definitely believe those are TMS related. I have a harder time with my muscle twitches and spasms in my butt.

    Hi
    @Revvy1337
Have you read any books by Dr. Sarno?

reading any book by Dr. Sarno will be illuminating and give you more confidence (and help you be less frustrated) with what's going on. The Divided Mind presents a variety of people with different types of symptoms and might be helpful for you. He's the #1 place to start!

Including the twitches I get in various places in my glutes when I’m sitting? Is that a TMS symptom? I know for a fact my neuropathy type sensations is TMS because it goes away and hits different parts of my body when it does. But the twitching is what really bothers me right now. To the point, I am tired and only go to work. Before, I would just go anywhere I want no problem no fear no twitch no spasm no hypersensitivities. My library has online ebooks of Dr. Sarno I can try and read them.

    Yes.

Seriously, @Revvy1337 - on this forum, BLAH BLAH BLAH is how we interpret every description we see of yet another physical detail.

Keeping in mind that we do have a medical caveat which requires knowing that someone has been medically examined and cleared of acute/urgent conditions, the bottom line is that the details of emotionally-driven symptoms simply don't matter. More importantly, focusing on the details hinders the possibility of recovery.

Here is the #1 neuroscientific fact that you must always keep in mind:

Every single physiological process, and every single physical sensation, is created from our brains, NOT from the area which senses the pain.

The proof of this statement lies in the phenomenon of Phantom Limb Pain - which was a long-standing mystery to the rational medical profession until neuroscience explained it by the fact that I just stated.

The Divided Mind is definitely the Sarno book for you, because after introducing his own theories in four efficient chapters, he turns the book over to five other MDs and a psychologist for an expanded view - even back in 2006 - of the mindbody connection. The neuroscience since then has only strengthened the argument for brain-based physiological responses.

The primitive TMS mechanism in our brains is designed to keep us safe but it doesn't work well in the modern world, and is going into overdrive more often as the world gets more stressful.

You need to learn why your particular TMS mechanism is doing this to you. The methods it chooses are unique to you, and thus irrelevant to focus on.

Dr Sarno may be twenty-plus years behind the times in some regards, but his basic theory is still sound and it's the place to start.

No idea at this point. They started showing up after my urological procedures I had. Maybe I’m still in PTSD mode after this. These were scary times in my life.

You know I know my paresthesias are TMS because it goes away a lot if I’m talking to someone or playing video games. Or I could be day dreaming and I don’t have it. Once I start stressing or seeing if it’s gonna come it will show up. Is that normal for TMS to do that?
