I'm currently reading a fantastic book by neuroscientist Rachel Barr.

In her book 'How to Make Your Brain Your Best Friend ' she emphasises fostering delight to counteract chronic stress and rewire neural pathways for resilience.

    She writes:

"Brief moments of genuine delight give your nervous system a momentary sigh of relief. They act as safety cues that downshift threat physiology.

Balance Hustle with Delight. Integrate delight into your routine to prevent burnout.

Micro-dosing delight throughout your day can act as a counterbalance to stress and pressure.

Practise Savouring. Regularly pause to notice and appreciate the small, delightful moments in your day.

Pay attention to sensory details, and make it a habit to say, ‘This is nice,’ to anchor yourself in the present.

Don’t Mistake Cravings for Delight Be wary of craving; it can trick you into thinking you’re finding joy when you’re not."

Today, I was putting a medical-grade honey dressing on my husband's poorly finger (he suffers chilblains in the winter that tend to ulcerate) and I said, because I was having difficulty cutting the sticky dressing, "this honey is just SO sugary!" and simultaneously we both started singing, and we continued singing, 'Oh honey, oh sugar, sugar' by The Archies--what a 'bubble gum music' delight! (so just thought I'd share)...
