Day 10 First posting: concerned whether I am in the right place to address breathing problems

Most experiences described on this website and in related readings address chronic pain. While I have had a number of conditions over the years involving chronic pain, my current health concerns involve asthma-like and gastric symptoms. I have seen a series of specialists that have done a number of scans finding some anomalies which could explain this (mild hiatal hernia causing indigestion, reflux, and asthma), but none of the treatments have provided relief, only side-effects. The last specialist advised returning to normal exercise and daily activities and slowly dropping all the medications. My symptoms come and go with no classic asthma patterns, but greatly interfere with sleeping, travel, and normal life activities.

I am very suspicious that the source of my symptoms is actually psychological and I see myself in the patterns and personality traits described here and in related readings. Yet difficulty breathing, which is terrifying and a potentially fatal symptom, is not described beyond a mention that asthma and allergies are TMS substitutes. Not sure I am in the right place and certainly my symptoms have not mitigated despite my readings and participation in the program for 10 days.

BCR I believe you are in the right place. My husband "cured himself" of adult-onset asthma (used a rescue inhaler up to 10 times a day and then was on Advair for several years) purely by becoming slowly more comfortable with expressing his emotions, especially emotions he felt were unacceptable. Little by little he was able to wean himself off of his meds and now is pretty much asthma-free. It took about five years altogether. If he gets extremely stressed it can flair up, but for the most part it is as though it never happened.

A lot of the people here, although they are here because of pain, also have or have had gastrointestinal problems, which do clear up as well. I know it's rough when you don't see your symptom in the literature... but keep digging. It's out there.
