Hello, I want to see what thoughts are about a fainting episode I had before Christmas. This fainting episode happened in early December and I was up in the middle of the night with some severe gastrointestinal issues that caused me to faint on the floor, breaking my nose and injuring my neck in the process. This is one of the events leading to my currently sensitized state. Thinking back to my childhood I was a quiet and shy child in a boisterous family and was always anxious before big family get togethers. Holidays usually depress me quite a bit as an adult. Could this fainting episode after Thanksgiving but before Christmas been a manifestation of my brain in anticipation of what was still to come? I will ask my therapist for sure but wondered if any of you had experienced anything similar? After this fainting episode, I started to suffer panic attacks and had to leave our Xmas gathering early.

If you look up "stress and syncope" you can probably answer this yourself, @lkelse. We really shouldn't make any conjectures with virtually zero information, although I certainly hope that you were thoroughly checked out for the fainting in addition to your injuries. We always say that if the medical pros "can't find anything wrong" and don't prescribe urgent intervention, then it's probably safe to look at stress and/or emotional distress as a factor.

In fact, you can take any symptom and combine it with "Stress" in a web search to see just how many symptoms are either clearly caused by, or at least known to be made worse by, stress, when the symptoms are otherwise of unknown origin. My personal favorite is "stress and inflammation" which is why I'm convinced that the autoimmune conditions are strongly related to long-term stress. After all, it's not like the medical research industry, in decades of attempts, have been able to come up with a better explanation. And as someone diagnosed with sudden-onset and late-in-life rheumatoid arthritis in 2020, I feel reasonably well-qualified to comment on my own experience.

There is no sure when talking about the unconscious. Your therapist can offer her/his opinion on it. The people on this Forum can weigh in. It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense to your logical, rational mind.

I’ve noticed that almost every time I’ve ever had TMS it was trying to protect me from doing something I knew I dreaded or from something I subconsciously dreaded. I know this isn’t what anyone teaches. It’s not a Sarno teaching, either. But I noticed it as a pattern for me.
