So today I was a bit more active, I walked for longer without the crutches. It was a stressful situation I was in. But the pain came on really badly in my foot. So is this evidence that there is something physically wrong?! Or is it the brain ramping up the pain because it fears I am overiding it?! I keep telling myself once I have the MRI results on Friday and have asked Dr if it's ok to just be more physical, then I'll be able to have 100% confidence in the TMS diagnosis. But if he says no, I shouldn't be doing too much, well then, I'm not sure where this leaves me!!

    Evidence for TMS
some forum posts say even with bone marrow edema or rough ankle joint it can be TMS.
How can the pain be so bad from a small bit of my body that even strong pain killers don't touch it
Over 3 months since ankle sprain happened surely it would be repaired by now?
There was a period a few weeks after the accident when I felt I was getting better, followed swiftly by 'walking too far' and has basically not improved since despite doing physio.
I ran up the stairs today confidently, and I wouldn't say I feel worse overall this evening than I did before that.
My personality and levels of stress tally with TMS

    evidence against TMS
it hurts more after I walk, and it's better when I rest.
The physio said it was peroneal tendonitis and can take 3-9 months to recover from.

Once you get your MRI results, you will definitely have some answers. But just keep in mind that some results are normal abnormalities as well. But as you wait, you can continue the program with journaling and educational portion. It is very common for your brain to ramp up pain while you start this program. Your nervous system is trying to protect you and it will do that with more pain and/or changing symptoms or locations.

Today I was amazed to receive my MRI results, which actually showed there was nothing physically wrong with my foot, not even any significant scarring from previous sprains! The Dr thought I might be upset too find this out. But I said I was actually pleased, as I had just rediscovered the Mindbody hypothesis and the power of the brain to create pain. So I can now be discharged and redouble my efforts to remove the pain using the TMS recovery programme ( and I'm doing the Dr Schechter workbook too.). I don't think Drs in the UK have learnt much about the TMS theories yet, so I was pleased to be able to offer some snippet of a case study on this which may inspire him to read into it further. He did say that he'd had patients previously that had undergone surgery and the pain hadn't reduced.
So I now have more evidence for my own TMS to work with, hurrah!
I also watched the Dr Schechter presentation today which referred to the incident of the nail in the boot, agony and subsequent lack of injury. This is a very succinct and powerful example to keep reminding myself of the power of the brain to create pain.

So awesome, @Ella1234 ! Congrats on the great news!
AND, yes, that story keeps playing in my head! It's a good one showing the power of the brain!
