Day Four - Question to ponder

What was the most disheartening thing a doctor has told you about your symptoms? In what ways have you kept that in your mind?

The most disheartening thing told to me by my Doctor was that I would need to learn to live with my back pain and to not lift weights anymore (avid gym girl here).

It has stayed in my mind because I felt so dismissed and scared by what he said. He looks at my CT scan, sees a minor disc bulge and tells me that I'm meant to live with the pain? For all we know, that minor bulging disc could have been there for years before I got the scan done. And how do we know it's causing the pain?

As for not lifting weights, I didn't want to hear that. I love exercising and going to the gym. It is how I like to spend my free time and look after myself. Lifting weights isn't dangerous and I never lifted more than I could handle.

And you want to know the funniest thing he told me to think about in regards to treating the bulge? Get a $30,000 surgery on my spine. When I told him I did not have that kind of money, he said I could ask my parents who would be more than happy to help me with that. BTW they would not. I realised then that my family doctor, for most of my life, was basically a quack.

Plus, from what I've read about spinal surgery, it would be a colossal waste of time and money. So no thank you, Doctor.

This has been a recurring topic.
They don't know WTF they are talking about.
I was told I risked paralysis if I ever JOGGED again....I have been a Manual laborer, runner, baseball player and skateboarder in the interim...as soon as I read Sarno, I deleted everything they ever told me....going on 25 years now.

anybody using the 'structural mythology' is going to have a lot of wrong info. Just mentally delete it wherever you find it or hear it.
