I have difficulty meditating because during the last weeks of hospital rehabilitation, there was a meditation session and I couldn’t relax—quite the opposite. One time, after the body scan, they even had us imagine that our soul was leaving our body, exiting the hospital, and then coming back in through the main entrance. Because of that, I think meditation doesn’t work for me.
Tonight I tried it again, but I felt a strong urge to finish... as soon as possible. I didn’t even make it to 8 minutes—only ...

8 minutes can be A LOT when just starting.

And, maybe it is linked to the hospital rehabilitation.
I just wrote about something similar yesterday
For me, meditation (which I had done for years) somehow got completely entangled to remind me of last year when the "perfect storm" of symptoms occurred. Haven't been able to get back to a meditation process since then. I'm trying to decondition that response, but it is a challenge and think I just need to explore other modalities for a bit.

Have you tried different types of meditation? Or perhaps mindfulness could be more helpful?
I've seen a number of different things for nervous system regulation, so am trying things like humming for vagus nerve stimulation. I haven't tried tapping yet, but it seems many people find it helpful.

Have you been doing the journaling? If so, how is that going for you?

No, I don’t think meditation works for me.
I’ve already used journaling in the past, and I have to say—it’s something that really helps me...

The few times I've managed to go more than 30 minutes in meditation, I've experienced some profound relaxation. But damn, 30+minutes is a LONG time. My brain is completely resistant to a regular practice, so I have accepted that I'm not going to be meditating my way out of symptoms.

I use deep breathing for immediate issues like a spell of dizziness or queasiness, and I use journaling for serious RA pain flares. Most stuff I just ignore, and at age 74, there's more "stuff" than there used to be (I'm talking about stiffness, weird pains, odd sensations). But if I don't take it seriously, it doesn't stick around.
