Think of some activities you really enjoy doing. If you could do one of these activities without feeling stressed out, without having anxiety, and without worrying about your family, kids, job, etc. how would that feel? Why do you not do this activity more often? What steps could you take to do this activity stress free and without worrying about other things? Do this activity this week
Yesterday I woke up and had the morning completely free of pain. What I noticed however throughout the day was the chronic and embedded fear I have about EVERYTHING. I've relied on back pain to keep me from working, socializing and exercising. When that is gone, the voices are still there." Watch out! Oh Don't do that! Oh You're gonna pay for that movement."
It was astounding to me to watch the thread of the thought infiltrate pretty much every movement of the day. I had to keep reminding myself that this is only the 5th day and its all about progress not perfection!
The activity that I'm going to focus on is cycling. I used to do long distance cycling but now its wrapped up in fear of pain. So I'm going to go riding today. Nothing beyond my physical shape - but I should be able to do 30 miles without too much muscle soreness. Note the difference between back pain and muscle soreness. Thankfully I do know the difference between them.
This activity is also wrapped up in distraction of working. I'm self-employed and I SHOULD work on a newsletter but I'm going to do this activity because its my homework and I trust that I will get to my newsletter tomorrow.
