My level of acceptance for the TMS diagnosis is between 80 to 100%. My personality profile fits the ideal candidate extremely well and thinking through my past history I can identify multiple times of stress in my life that may have caused my pain and/or illness. I have seen all types of therapists throughout the years and one of my observations through physical therapy for pain has been that it often clears up with little to no correlation with the physical therapy itself. The pain just goes away one day. I have long held the belief that stress kills and I am grateful to have finally been introduced to Dr. John Sarno's body of work. Luckily and oddly, I was exposed while doing a yoga exercise on YouTube.

My main worries at this time relate to the amount of trauma I've gone through in the past 5 years. The pandemic being bad enough. I lost both parents, moved away from my home town (most of my family and friends), lost my job (I'm now a "stay-at-home dude" for my small family), suffered a major concussion and stepped away from a beloved volunteer organization for youth in my new town.

    I'm ready to start over.

Wow, that trauma load is immense. I have this sense that self-compassion is going to be an essential tool in your recovery. I'm trying to connect with that inner dialogue and support myself. Sending you so many well wishes as you commit to you.

Welcome to the forum and the SEP, @Surfshakedown!
Whereas 14 years ago I was perusing a ridiculous discussion on a forum about food and migraines, because a physiotherapist thought I was a migraineur and wanted me to go on the migraine diet. One lonely voice in the discussion recommended The Divided Mind by Dr Sarno, for which he was thoroughly abused by everyone else, but I downloaded the book from my city library that night, found this forum and the SEP, and never looked back.

    You're in the right place!

    Welcome, @Surfshakedown welcomea
So sorry to hear about all the terrible things you’ve been through the past few years. That can certainly tip a person over the edge to TMS. But it sounds like you have a good grip of things and you’re willing to do the work so things should get better for you. We’re here to help you. The SEP is a great place to start.
