I have been suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome for 26 years. I have tried all sorts of treatments over the years and I just learnt to live with it all the last few years. I had been interested in the psychological aspects of illness for some time. However, it's only since I've suffered a major relapse in recent months - after a stressful few years and moving house - that I've come to accept that psychological factors probably form a big part of the illness.
My main symptoms over the last few months have been pain and weakness in my legs, buttocks, arms and hands which - very disabling and frightening.
I am currently undergoing nutritional therapy with the Optimum Health Clinic in the UK, where I am based. I've been reading Dr Sarno’s books for about a month now and reading here at the TMS Wiki for a few weeks.
I think I have come to believe my CFS comprises a high proportion psychological factors, adrenal fatigue and a need to calm the amygdala. Most days now I see my CFS as 98% psychological. On other days that figure drops. But this is early in my TMS journey.
